Scott W. Phillips

Columbus – Scott W. Phillips, 79, of Coles Drive, died at 12:17 a.m. August 24, 2018, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Scott was born March 4, 1939, in Mattoon, Illinois, the son of Wendell and Bethel Monical Phillips. He married JoHelen Phillips November 24, 1989, and she preceded him in death February 6, 2018.

He graduated from Arsenal Tech High School in 1957, where he was a colonel in the ROTC program. He also attended Culver Military Academy summer program.

Scott had a life-long career in sheet metal supply and was a life-time member of Indiana Heating Association and Indiana Roofers Association.

In retirement he enjoyed golf and bowling leagues. Scott loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, August 27, 2018, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, Columbus, Indiana, with Jacob and Jessica Foster officiating. Calling will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service. A private entombment will be at Garland Brook Cemetery mausoleum at a later date.

The family would greatly appreciate in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Survivors include his sons, Brent L. Beasley and Brandon S. Phillips, both of Indianapolis; daughters, Kim (Tony) Oliver of Columbus and Jennifer (Jon) Shelton of Cincinnati; grandchildren, Jessica (Jacob) Foster, Ayden (Carla) Beasley, Gabriel Beasley, Samuel Beasley, Mary Shelton and Alex Shelton; great-grandchildren, Lyman Beasley, Jaxson Beasley and Emma Jo Foster; brother, Ryan (Gladys) Phillips and sister, Lynn (Ken) Meier, both of Indianapolis; and a sister-in-law, Cappy (John) Hancock of Fairhope, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, JoHelen; brother-in-law, Sammy “Sonny” Murray and a sister-in-law, Betty Waddle.
