Congratulations to the Indianapolis Roofers Safety Group, winners of the Governor’s Workplace Safety Award- Partnerships in Construction, for the third time! The award was presented at the 2016 Indiana Safety and Health Conference and Expo, held at the Indiana Convention Center on 3/23/2016

Partnerships in Construction

Indianapolis Roofers Safety Group  is the 2016 recipient of the Governor’s Workplace Safety Award in the category of Partnerships in Construction. The Indianapolis Roofers Safety Group is comprised of leadership from AAA Roofing Company, Inc., Henry C. Smither Roofing Company, Inc., HRC Roofing and Sheet Metal, R. Adams Roofing, Inc., and Southern Roofing, Inc.  The insurance industry rates roofing as one of the highest risk crafts in the construction industry, and an Experience Modification Rate (EMR) over 1.0 is very typical of the industry group.  Because roofing is a seasonal craft, one that can only be performed in favorable weather conditions, employee turnover is usually high, which creates challenges.  The Indianapolis Roofers Safety Group uses its unique composition of members, which are both union and non-union, to continually improve safety performance in the workplace.

The safety consultant for the IRSG is IRCA member firm, Safety Resources Inc.

The annual Governor’s Workplace Safety Awards are a result of a partnership among the Indiana Department of Labor, on behalf of Governor Mike Pence, the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and the Central Indiana Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers.  The award provides recognition for companies based on best practices for eliminating workplace injuries and illnesses.  The award salutes those organizations for which safety and health have been made a top priority.

The Governor’s Workplace Safety Awards are open to all organizations, regardless of size or number of workers affected.  All Hoosier businesses, unions, municipalities, schools, service organizations, nonprofit organizations or individuals are eligible to apply for the awards.  To qualify, a company must be deemed to be free of compliance disputes concerning all applicable local, state and federal statutes and regulations.

Years Awarded: 2016, 2010, 2002
